The weather these days has done a full 180 degree turnaround. Last week, we were all lamenting about how Bangalore has become so hot and that it doesn’t feel like the onset of winter. The whole of this week though, there have been relentless rains, leaving roads muddy and squelchy, and a cold breeze has taken up residence every where.
In the mornings, the very thought of washing up in cold water is enough to push one deeper inside a blanket. Yet, how little do we realize that hot water is a luxury for many. Making this luxury, a simple reality, was one of Quadwave Care’s aims this year. With a little help from Col. Ghosh of ELEN Education Trust, Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar (Our partners in all things QCares), and of course, the QCares team from Quadwave, we set up a solar water heater for the trainees of APD (Association of People with Disability).
On 13th November, APD launched their Annual Garden Fair, a ten day event where they hope to reconnect with old friends and customers and reach out to new people as well. Since APD is so intricately linked with their horticulture department, the Garden Fair seems like the best place to create a little awareness about disabilities.
At this occasion, the solar water heater was also inaugurated with the auspicious lighting of the lamp. The QCares team were in full force along with Col. Ghosh and Mr. Fazal Rahman, Director of Community Services along with the APD members like Mr. Ganesh Hegde and Mr. Gopinath, who is the Executive Director of Operations at APD.
At a small event, Mr. Fazal and Col. Ghosh expressed their gratitude at being involved in this venture while Mr. Gopinath enunciated about how important it was for the trainees to become independent economically. ‘Everybody should be able to earn,’ he said.
Visiting APD is always like a rush to the senses, surrounded by the lovely plants and the blooming flowers, watching rain droplets dancing on many leaves. Today, it was also a joy to see the shy smiles on many faces there. Mr. Hegde told us that the girls were happy to have access to hot water and it truly gladdened our heart that we could make this luxury into a reality.
